PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsdadio) — Police are looking for the driver responsible for a violent hit-and-run in the city's Port Richmond section Sunday morning that damaged several vehicles and sent a man to the hospital in critical condition.
At 7:20 a.m., a black Dodge Ram truck carrying four juveniles, moving at "an extremely high rate of speed" eastbound on Venango Street, ran a red light at Richmond Street and t-boned the diver's side of a white Chevrolet truck traveling northbound, according to police.
Both trucks continued down Venango, carried by the momentum of the Dodge, hitting at least five vehicles parked near the intersection, sending debris flying in all directions, before coming to a stop, as can be seen in surveillance video that captured the collision.
Also captured on surveillance video was the scene where the Dodge came to a stop and the occupants — wearing dark colors, ski masks and puffy coats — abandoned the crumpled and smoking truck and immediately fled. Some got away on foot, and at least one got into a white subcompact SUV that stopped alongside the truck moments after the crash.
The 40-year-old driver of the Chevrolet truck was taken to a hospital, where police say he is in critical condition.
