PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Travelers at Philadelphia International Airport may have been exposed to measles, health officials said Monday.
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health said a person with measles went through the airport’s federal inspection area in Terminal A West on Friday, May 31, between 2:50 and 6 p.m.
Officials recommend anyone who was possibly exposed to check their vaccination records. Children under 12 months of age should be vaccinated. Anyone who is not vaccinated, or people who are pregnant or immunosuppressed, should talk to their health care provider about treatment.
Measles is highly contagious and airborne. Early symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough, and red, puffy eyes, followed by a rash. It is contagious four days before a rash starts and four days after.
Officials said this case is unrelated to other recent measles cases in Philadelphia.
Health officials said anyone who develops symptoms through June 21 should contact their doctor and the local and state health departments.
