Fewer people in Pennsylvania got into alcohol-related car crashes during this Memorial Day weekend than last year, but DUI arrests increased slightly.
According to data released by Pennsylvania State Police, they responded to 651 crashes between May 26 and 29. Three of them were fatal.
Alcohol was a factor in 59 of those crashes — down from 66 in 2022. Total crashes are also down from last year, which saw 775.
Across the state, Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop K jurisdiction, which includes Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware counties, saw the highest number of crashes.
Police also made 547 DUI arrests over the weekend in Pennsylvania — a slight increase from last year, which saw 526.
Additionally, troopers issued 31,128 traffic citations, including speeding, not wearing seat belts and failing to secure children in safety seats.
These arrests are made by state troopers and do not include other law enforcement agencies.
