PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — “Abbot Elementary” star and creator Quinta Brunson has teamed up with the School District of Philadelphia to help more Philly students go on field trips.
“Field trips were some of the most memorable parts of my own education growing up in Philadelphia,” Brunson said. “They opened my world, sparked my creativity, and helped me imagine a future beyond what I saw every day. Going somewhere new shows you that the world is bigger and more exciting than you believe, and it can shape what you come to see as achievable. I’m proud to support Philadelphia students with experiences that remind them their dreams are valid and their futures are bright.”
The Quinta Brunson Field Trip Fund will help the more than 117,000 students in the city’s public schools explore the nearly 200 museums and national landmarks in Philly and beyond.
Katherine Epps, president and CEO of the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, said they hope to start funding field trips as early as this upcoming spring.
Brunson kicked off the fundraiser with a personal contribution in honor of Giving Tuesday. Donations can be made here.
“What Quinta Brunson, our esteemed alum of the School District of Philadelphia, is doing is helping to eliminate all the barriers that impact whether or not our children can go on field trips,” said School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Tony Watlington.
