PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A well-known Philly DJ was killed as he rode his bike in Overbrook late last month. Police are now searching for the car they believe was involved.

While biking home from work around 3:45 a.m. On Dec. 20, a driver in a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck 54-year-old June Rodriguez from behind as he was turning left at the intersection of 56th Street and Lancaster Avenue, and kept going.

Rodriguez, a longtime employee and DJ at Bob and Barbara’s Lounge on South Street, died at the hospital from his injuries.

The Jeep was last seen traveling westbound on Lancaster Avenue, a few blocks from the crash site near Tustin Playground.

In hopes of gaining more information on the incident, police have released a reference photo of a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a real image of the one they believe struck and killed Rodriguez that morning.

The car has a license plate number of MXB-1835, and major front-end damage to its passenger’s side headlight and fender.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3180/3181 or 911.

Philly Bike Action, a bike advocacy group, says Rodriguez was one of seven cyclists to die on Philly streets last year.
