PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Right-wing political commentator Kathy Barnette has entered the race for the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated by Pat Toomey.

In a three-minute video posted on Twitter, Barnette walks through the Gettysburg battlefield and explains why she wants to become the first Black Republican woman elected to the U.S. Senate.

She said people who look like her weren’t allowed to vote for decades after slaves were freed. But, she said, now it’s people who think like her that are being persecuted and canceled.

Barnette lost to Madeleine Dean by 19 points in November 2020 in the race for Montgomery County’s seat in Congress.

On the Republican front, she joins real estate developer Jeff Bartos, attorney Sean Gale, and businessman Everett Stern in the race for the open Senate seat.
