CENTER CITY (KYW Newsradio) — Residents of Brith Sholom House apartments in Wynnefield rallied outside of Philadelphia City Hall on Tuesday alongside Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. demanding Mayor Cherelle Parker’s administration intervene to save the complex they say is falling into disrepair.

Betty was one of the residents that spoke at the rally and has lived at Brith Sholom for a decade. She asked Parker to visit the complex in Wynnefield and survey the issues herself.

“Everything is just falling apart,” she said. “I’m asking you to come to Brith Sholom and help us out.”

Earnest, another resident that spoke to KYW who’s also lived at the complex for a decade said in recent years, management hasn’t made any repairs.

“We need some help,” he said. “Every time it rains, it rains in my apartment.”

Shawn Moss with Renter’s Justice said the two main issues were that the owner didn’t pay the gas bill and — as residents also said — there are still significant repairs that need to be made to make the facility livable.

“We know the Mayor can have L&I make these changes,” said Moss.

KYW also reached out to the Department of Licenses and Inspections for comment, but has yet to get a response.
