PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Lace up your skates: The Rothman Orthopaedics Roller Rink at Dilworth Park is now open.

The Center City District unveiled the colorful open-air roller rink on the west side of City Hall on Friday.

This is the first roller skating rink at Dilworth Park.

“We’re always looking for new things to bring to the park to keep it exciting,” said Center City District spokesperson Laurel Perley. “It’s super colorful, lots of joy, retro vibe.”

Keeping with the retro theme, the rink has a checkerboard floor and a whimsical overhead installation of hula hoops, designed by Lucky Dog Studio.

The rink is temporarily situated on top of a portion of the fountains on the plaza.

“Once the opening event materials get cleared away, this section … will come back on, so it’s part fountain, part roller rink,” said Perley.

There’s also a beer garden adorned with colorful umbrellas and plenty of spaced-out seating.

The rink will be open through at least June 27. It’s open to the public Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m., and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11:15 p.m.

The rink requires mask-wearing and is operating at a reduced capacity to keep with COVID-19 safety protocols.

Tickets go for $10 for adults and $8 for kids 10 and younger. Skate rentals cost $5. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time at rothmanrink.ticketsocket.com.
