2nd murder charge against suspect wanted for shooting death of pregnant woman

Autopsy revealed Tamara Cornelius was pregnant when she was shot and killed near KOP Mall

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A reward is now being offered for information that leads to the arrest of a Philadelphia man accused of shooting and killing a woman and her unborn baby in King of Prussia.

The fatal shooting happened Friday at a gas station right across from King of Prussia Mall.

Investigators say Rafiq Thompson, 38, is wanted for the murder of Tamara Cornelius, 31. They believe he shot her just before 10:30 p.m. Friday at a gas station across the street from King of Prussia Mall.

As for the connection between the two, the Montgomery County District Attorney's office says they were previously in a relationship.

Less than two hours prior to the deadly shooting, investigators said they spoke before she went to have dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.

Cornelius left the restaurant around 10:15 p.m., got her car out of the mall parking garage, and drove to the Exxon gas station. Thompson allegedly followed her there.

The DA's office said that as she was pumping gas, the two briefly spoke before Thompson shot her several times.

She was taken to the hospital where she died, but the autopsy found Cornelius was pregnant at the time she was shot and killed, leading to the additional homicide charge.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.

The DA’s office said Thompson is 5-foot, 7-inches tall and weighs 167 pounds. He is from Philadelphia and is considered to be armed and dangerous, so if you spot him, you are asked to call 911.

Otherwise, if you have information on where Thompson may be, the DA’s office asks you to call Montgomery County Detectives at 610-226-5553 or Upper Merion Police at 610-265-3232. People can also use the STOPit! App using MontcoCrimeTips to give anonymous text tips.
