PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When people slowly creep back into the office, they may stumble upon a new coworker: a robot.

Coretrust Capital Partners, a real estate investment firm company headquartered in Center City, is sending sanitizing robots to workplaces, which are used to deactivate harmful pathogens in the air.

The 6-feet-tall UBTECH robots resemble outdoor heating lamps.

“This is an ultraviolet germicidal C wavelength radiation unit that we are using to disinfect the indoor environments within our office buildings,” said Thomas Ricchi, Coretrust managing principal.

People, animals and plants cannot be in the room when the robot is disinfecting it. The UV light does not penetrate glass, so it’s safe to be on the other side of closed windows or doors. There is a safety sensor in place if someone does enter, which stops the machine.

It takes three minutes for the robots to disinfect the air and surfaces against COVID-19 and other harmful airborne pathogens.

Coretrust also installed a hospital-grade air purification system in office spaces and a bipolar ionization system in elevators to purify the air.
