Route 1 widening project in Bucks County begins next phase
PennDOT

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — PennDOT is launching the second phase of a major reconstruction project along Route 1 in Bucks County that will last for the next few years.

Starting Monday night, crews will begin setting up the work pattern with barriers on northbound and southbound Route 1 between the Neshaminy and Penndel/Business U.S. 1 exits.

Brad Rudolph, deputy communications director for PennDOT, said it's a big project that will impact drivers.

"We'll be widening the highway to three lanes in each direction," he said. "We'll add an auxiliary lane in each direction between the interchanges from the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Bensalem interchange through the Neshaminy interchange to the Penndel/Business Route 1 interchange."

Rudolph said drivers can expect daily lane closures starting at 8 p.m. Lanes will reopen by the morning rush.

"We're also replacing and reconstructing several bridges over Rock Hill Drive, Neshaminy Creek and Business U.S. 1," he said. "We're also improving off of Main Line U.S. 1 sections of Rock Hill Drive, Business U.S. 1 and Old Lincoln Highway."

In addition, Rudolph said there will be "several sign structure replacements, traffic signal replacements, drainage improvements, sound barriers, retaining walls are going to be added onto this project."

"This project's going to go basically until mid-2026," he said.
