PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 75-year-old Roxborough man has been charged after investigators said he shot and killed a young contractor who was working on his home earlier this week.
Around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, medics and police arrived along Ripka Street, near Pechin Street, for a call about a man falling from a roof. There, they found 20-year-old Salis Hanrahan with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Police said neighbors saw Hanrahan run out of the home after a popping sound, and, shortly thereafter, they saw the homeowner, 75-year-old George Barr, leave to walk his dog.
When detectives looked through the home, they found blood drops leading outside, consistent with what the neighbors saw. They also found a rifle with a bayonet, ammunition, and a contractor bill for $70,000.
Barr came back from walking his dog and was taken into police custody. He is now charged with murder, possession of an instrument in a crime and reckless endangerment. He remains in prison.
Barr has a prior aggravated and simple assault conviction from 1981.
It’s unclear exactly what the motive was, though it’s believed to be over money.
Hanrahan, who was from England, was married and had children.
