BLACKWOOD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Free flu shots are available at several locations in South Jersey, and health officials are encouraging everyone to get one. You don't even have to get out of your car at some clinics.
A drive-thru clinic at Camden County College in Blackwood has been open because health officials are concerned about fighting the flu and COVID-19 simultaneously.
"The only way to distinguish which virus you actually have would be to get tested, and the one thing we do not want to do is overwhelm — besides, of course, want to stay healthy — we don't want to overwhelm our health care system," said Claudia Whitcraft, director of public health nursing for the Camden County Health Department.
She said it's important that you also don't overwhelm your own immune system.
"Keeping in mind that you can get both viruses at the same time," Whitcraft said, "so if there is protection from one, you should definitely take advantage of that."
