PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It was a case of really bad timing. Service was suspended on part of SEPTA’s Broad Street Line just as fans were headed to Sunday’s Eagles wild card playoff game against Green Bay in South Philadelphia.
Many fans taking the Broad Street Line to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, Jan. 12 missed the start of the game because trains stopped running on the northern end of the line an hour before the 4:30 p.m. kickoff. SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch said a signal malfunction affected a switch near Erie Station.
“We ran shuttle buses to get them down to Walnut-Locust and then on to NRG Station, but there were certainly significant delays for many customers,” he said.
Repairs took about an hour and postgame service ran as usual.
Busch said SEPTA is putting procedures in place for the home divisional playoff against the Rams on Sunday, Jan. 19, making sure transit workers are able to troubleshoot any future disruptions.
“We’re already staffed up, we think, to an adequate level. Just making sure that we’re in the best position to respond to things as they come up,” he added.
Extra service is again planned for this Sunday’s 3 p.m. game. Busch hopes riders will give SEPTA another chance.
