PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A tractor-trailer struck a rail overpass in Wynnewood Friday morning, temporarily suspending service on SEPTA’s Paoli-Thorndale Line for several hours.
Around 8 a.m., SEPTA said a tractor-trailer was heading east on Penn Road, toward Wynnewood Road, when it struck the rail overpass, lodging itself under the bridge.
It managed not only to damage the rail bridge but also the SEPTA platform at Wynnewood Station.
“There was visible damage to the underpass, part of the bridge with some I-beams, as well as the support for the pedestrian conveyance on the actual train platform itself,” said Lower Merion Police Superintendent Andy Block. “There was also visible damage to some of the placards next to the rails.”
SEPTA called the damage “significant,” and structural engineers are working to assess the damage and make repairs.
Service on the Paoli-Thorndale Line was restored around 12:30 p.m., with some delays.
No injuries were reported.
