PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A SEPTA worker has been arrested by transit police after he was caught on video inside the Frankford Transportation Center punching a rider.
It happened Monday morning after what SEPTA says was a verbal argument over payment between one of their revenue agents and a man. Revenue agents are like armored guards who secure all the money coming in from riders, SEPTA Police Chief Tom Nestel explained.
"We want to make sure folks who are hired by SEPTA are treating people with respect and dignity and they obey the law, and if they don't, they will be on camera, and we will arrest them," Nestel said.
SEPTA is also investigating what happened during a fight last week among teenagers at Dilworth Station. Guards from the security contractor Allied were nearby at the time but did not intervene.
Nestel believes those guards acted appropriately.
