PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New schedules for SEPTA’s Regional Rail lines go into effect next week — with more trains in service.

The new timetables come as SEPTA incorporates new trains loaned from the Maryland Transit Administration. SEPTA completed its federally mandated inspections of its 50-year-old rail fleet in November, but many cars remained out of service for repairs.

The transit agency said the new Maryland Area Regional Commuter Rail (MARC) trains will ease crowding by adding more cars to morning and evening rush service.

The rail cars will help expand service on several lines, including the Wilmington, Trenton and Chestnut Hill East lines, and add more frequent direct service from Wayne Junction to Philadelphia International Airport.
