PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Service on SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale and Cynywd lines was suspended for hours Monday evening.
SEPTA had announced around 1:30 p.m. that Paoli/Thorndale Line service was suspended in both directions between Center City and Thorndale Station, and Cynywd Line service was suspended in both directions between Center City and Cynwyd Station, because of downed overhead wires near 30th Street Station.
"The delay in the Paoli/Thorndale Line isn't anything too catastrophic, but for people who do got to get somewhere at a specific time, I can see how this would be extremely frustrating," said a rider who said he was happy SEPTA was working on it.
An outbound train with about 150 people on board was stuck for several hours not too far from 30th Street Station. According to customer service responses to rider questions on X, the commuter cars were coupled to a SEPTA "wire work train," which reversed back to 30th Street, where passengers were transferred to shuttle buses out to Thorndale.
Unfortunately, those shuttles were only for people on that stopped train. There were not enough bus operators to run shuttle buses for all canceled trains. Riders had to find alternate routes on SEPTA's app or speak to customer service staff on-site at 30th Street Station.
Just before rush hour, SEPTA and Amtrak cleared the downed wires, but service remained suspended on the Paoli/Thorndale and Cynwyd lines until they finished repairs.
Around 7 p.m., service on both lines was restored.
