PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A SEPTA train derailed in North Philadelphia overnight, and it will take some time to clear the tracks. Three Regional Rail lines are suspended and several others are affected until further notice.
A Manayunk-Norristown Regional Rail train derailed north of North Broad Station around midnight. SEPTA said the rear wheels came off the track. There were 47 people on board, but no one was injured.
SEPTA initially said the train would be stuck there at least through the morning, but now there is no timetable for restored service. Spokesperson Andrew Busch said there is “moderate track damage to repair.”
The Manayunk-Norristown, Fox Chase and Chestnut Hill East lines are all suspended until further notice.
The Lansdale-Doylestown, Warminster and West Trenton lines are stopping at the Fern Rock Transit Center, where passengers can transfer to the Broad Street Line.
The remaining lines will make stops at 30th Street and Suburban stations, but not Jefferson Station.
On Tuesday afternoon, a separate freight train derailment in Bucks County prompted a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.
