PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former member of Mayor Cherelle Parker’s administration is the first person to announce her run to unseat Parker.
Shania Bennett announced on social media that she is running to become Philadelphia’s next mayor. The 26-year-old said her announcement is for people who want “transformational leadership and transparent representation.”
Parker appointed Bennett as the director of the Office of Youth Engagement two years ago. She resigned in May.
Bennett is hosting a campaign kickoff event on Sept. 26.
