PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating a violent carjacking and shootout in West Philly's Parkside neighborhood early Saturday morning.
Investigators said four people were sitting inside a black sedan near a house party at North 50th Street and Parkside Avenue when two groups began exchanging gunfire.
The driver of the sedan ducked for cover, and when he looked up, he was ambushed by some of the men involved in the shootout, who then forced their way into the car and demanded the driver take off at gunpoint.
The men then forced the driver and his passengers out of the car on 48th Street before fleeing the scene.
Officers later found the vehicle abandoned on Nolan Street in West Oak Lane, about eight miles north of the carjacking.
It remains unclear if anyone was hurt in the shootout, but none of the carjacking victims were physically harmed. An investigation is underway.
