PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — After a COVID-19 delayed 50th anniversary season, the South Jersey Pops Orchestra is back to making music.
For the last two years, Zoom was the only way the South Jersey Pops could play with each other.
"Not being able to make music together was among the most difficult things I’ve dealt with," admitted Pops Music Director Robert Bradshaw.
But he said things are changing.
This Sunday, they’ll return to in-person shows as they kick off their pandemic-delayed 50th season.
"We’re playing music that will help us not only reflect on sacrifices we’ve had to make and all of the things we’ve been missing, but also celebrate the return of happier times and the return of bluer skies ahead," Bradshaw shared.
Bradshaw added their show, entitled "Solstice," is meant to give their vaccinated, masked-up audience something to celebrate as they work to warm them up from the pandemic’s chill.
"This concert coming on Sunday is just the first step back towards continuing to celebrate those 50 years that we’ve been making music together as an orchestra, and we have a lot planned," he said.
The 70-piece community orchestra, based out of Burlington, will play that first show in Medford.
