$10M in grants now available for Philadelphia BIPOC arts groups

William Penn Foundation offers grants to reward Philly's cultural treasures

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — $10 million in grant money is now available for Black, indigenous, and people of color in Philadelphia’s arts community, as part of a multi-year collaboration between organizations to preserve arts groups hit hardest by the pandemic.

The William Penn Foundation is one of the groups charged with identifying and rewarding Philadelphia’s cultural treasures.

"We have put together a partnership to create grant making that will provide that much needed support to these organizations and artists around Philadelphia," said William Penn Foundation Program Director of Creative Communities Judilee Reed.

She explained that the application process is currently open for one of the funding opportunities.

"We’re interested in folks who have served and continue to serve as important community anchors," she said, "and story keepers, folks who provide essential services and programs to their communities on an ongoing basis."

She said coming out of the lockdown phase of the pandemic is a vital time to get this money to community arts programs.

"It’s important for us to provide this relief support to give these organizations and the artists who have given us so much through the pandemic some support that will give them some space to think about what to do next and how to respond to what now is a very evolving, yet persistent issue," said Reed.
