PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A South Philly kid is entering middle school while expanding his thriving lemonade business.
Micah Harrigan is a South Philadelphia 12-year-old known across our area and on social media for his Micah's Mixx sidewalk lemonade stand. The local phenomenon has even captured national attention on "The Kelly Clarkson Show."
But he isn't letting being a successful businessman get to his head. He's still just a kid, and is anticipating starting seventh grade.
"I'm a little excited to see my friends again after three months," said Harrigan.
Despite his palpable humility, his reputation precedes him, even at school. "Word's got out at school, and now everyone knows I have a lemonade business," said Harrigan. "Even the principal knows."
Harrigan plans to expand his business. His plan was to add a bus doubling as a mobile lemonade stand, but success hasn't come without hard knocks "My goal going forward — probably to maintain and work on the bus because people kept vandalizing it," he said.
So Harrigan hopes to raise funds to repair the bus, though that isn't his only next level play. He said advertisements are next, and even a jingle.
