PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — More than a decade after Blockbuster and Hollywood Video closed their doors, a South Philly couple is opening their own movie rental shop.
Dylan Wise of South Philly and his wife Keri wanted a place in their neighborhood where people could rent and buy movies and talk with other movie fans. So they decided to create their own shop: Little Movie Store.
Located at the corner of 10th and McKean streets, the store is a throwback to an earlier time when Friday night meant a trip to the video store.
“We have about 17,000 movies; not all of them are cataloged in our system yet,” Dylan said.
They have a lot of VHS tapes, DVDs, Blu-ray, and 70 LaserDiscs.
Just like Blockbuster, you’ll need a membership to rent — you can get one at littlemoviestore.com.
“When it comes to preserving movies, and preserving movie culture and having a physical place that you can go to do that, you know, nothing beats a physical movie,” Dylan said.
