PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An operating license has been revoked from a South Jersey strip club, after the body of Irving Mayren-Guzman, 19, was found dead nearby in January.
His family said the club let him in despite being underage.
A round of applause erupted at Wednesday's council meeting in Pleasantville, after six councilmembers voted to revoke the mercantile license for Centerfolds Cabaret.
"It's always going to feel empty, because we want our brother back. But this is the right step, this is a good direction for us," Eduardo Alvarez, Mayren-Guzman's brother, said to NBC10 after the vote.
In January, the 19-year-old was allegedly allowed into the strip club.
Police said he was later escorted outside, where it is believed he was then attacked by three men before running off.
Irving was declared missing the next day and was found dead the following morning.
The council voted following a private discussion and public comment.
Many shared their concerns about the Pleasantville club, citing other problems that stem from the location over the years.
"They are not a good citizen of this community," one person said.
