PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man has been charged with stabbing and killing his 78-year-old stepfather inside his Bristol Township home, after having what relatives told prosecutors was a "hit list" of family members that he wanted to kill.

Brian Carey, 41, was arrested Wednesday after police publicly called him a person of interest in the killing of Joseph Jakimowicz, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office said Friday.

Carey faces charges of criminal homicide, possession instrument of crime, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, stalking, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Prosecutors said that surveillance footage from Monday showed someone later identified as Carey getting off a SEPTA bus on Winder Drive and walking to Jakimowicz's home, entering the house at about 2:20 p.m. that afternoon and leaving in Jakimowicz's vehicle about 20 minutes later.

The DA said that Bristol Township Police went to Jakimowicz's home on Winder Avenue Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m. and found him dead, after what they said were "multiple sharp forced injuries."

Relatives told detectives that Jakimowicz and Carey, his estranged stepson, had "ongoing problems," and that Carey had threatened Jakimowicz on texts and voicemails.

A criminal complaint cited by prosecutors said that relatives knew of a "hit list" of family members that Carey wanted to kill, and Jakimowicz was on the list.

After police and the DA's office issued a public alert about Carey as a person of interest, Carey was found at a bar in Trumbauersville Borough. State troopers arrested him and found methamphetamine, smoking pipes, five knives, and a large amount of money on him, the DA said.

Authorities later tested blood found on Carey's clothes and matched it to Jakimowicz's DNA, prosecutors said.

Carey has been taken to the Bucks County Correctional Facility without bail.
