PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It won't be a white Christmas in the Philadelphia area, but it will be a wet and windy one. A flood watch is in effect for Philadelphia, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties until 6 a.m. Friday.
A large storm running up the Eastern Seaboard of the United States is bringing heavy rain and strong winds Thursday night.
Sarah Johnson from the National Weather Service said areas by the Shore should expect strong winds, with the worst being during the late overnight hours.
"Forty to 50 mph from most inland locations, and then as you get closer to the coast, you may see wind gust in excess of 60 miles and that's going to be primarily confined to the overnight hours," she explained.
Some may experience power outages.
Officials say the rain should move out by midday on Christmas.
Those who plan to travel should take extra precaution as some areas may experience flooding, especially along I-95.
PennDOT’s Brad Rudolph said crews are prepared to react if roads start to flood. But he said this is a good Christmas to stay home and stay safe.
