NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A half-mile stretch of White Horse Pike from Spring Road to Fleming Pike got walloped Sunday by what appears to be a blast of straight-line winds, knocking down at least 12 to 14 utility poles and damaging several others. That section is closed indefinitely as crews work to repair damage and restore power.
Atlantic City Electric says this is a labor intensive job and reconnecting everyone systemwide could take until Wednesday evening for the most damaged areas. However, a company spokesman told KYW Newsradio most people will be back online before then, including in Winslow Township.
High winds continue to be a challenge, as repair crews can’t go up in the bucket trucks when wind gusts exceed 30 to 40 miles per hour. Monday afternoon, there were reports of wind gusts up to 22 miles per hour in Winslow Township.
Atlantic City Electric says if your power is out, report it to them so you’re added to the repair list.
