PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It is being called the first intensive study about the damage of alcohol use on young adults. Canadian researchers analyzed data and found alcohol to be the cause of death in almost 14% of people between the ages of 20 and 39 worldwide.

Alcohol was found to be a major cause of acute and chronic pancreatitis, but other organs, such as the heart and stomach, are affected as well.

Although men are affected, women seem to be more vulnerable and have a greater risk of damage than males who drink the same amount.

One of the most surprising results was the fact that damage to the pancreas was greater than damage to the liver in this age group.
