PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Earlier this week, police identified a suspect in a mass shooting that killed a 19-year-old nearly two years ago in Southwest Philadelphia. On Friday, he turned himself in to the police.

Around 11:30 p.m. on July 4, 2024, 19-year-old Maurice Quain was shot in the head and killed while hosting a social media pop-up party on Salford Street, near 60th Street and Kingsessing Avenue.

Eight others — between the ages of 14 and 24 — suffered bullet wounds to their limbs but survived. The gunfire came from several people inside a car.

“There’s been an intense investigation into this case,” said Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore. “We recovered some evidence in this case, which was able to be developed.”

One of the suspects is 19-year-old Naseem Sills, who police said was driving the car and may have been a shooter himself.

“This individual and at least two to three others are in the car, [and] they come to that location. At some point, an argument seems to ensue, and there’s multiple rounds fired,” said Vanore. “We believe [Sills] was with these defendants, and he was definitely inside that vehicle and drove that vehicle at some point.”

Sills is now in police custody and faces murder charges for Quain's death.

Police are still working to identify at least two other suspects.
