Suspect in vandalism of Weitzman National Museum surrenders to police

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A suspect in the recent vandalism at the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History has surrendered to police.

The suspect has been identified as Leroy Hayes, 33, of Woodbury, New Jersey. Hayes has been charged with ethnic intimidation, criminal mischief and possessing an incident of crime.

It was Aug. 18 when police said cameras captured a person spraying red paint on the museum’s exterior along Independence Mall.

A week later, red paint appeared on a display showing solidarity with Israel on the 5th Street side of the museum.

Police said Hayes is charged in connection with both incidents.
