SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A teacher was hit by a car in the parking lot of a Catholic parish in Springfield, Delaware County, shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday.
"During dismissal yesterday at the Saint Kevin Campus, which is currently being utilized by a portion of the Saint Francis of Assisi School community, a car struck stationary vehicles waiting to pick up students. The driver of that vehicle is not connected to the school," said a spokesperson from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, based on information from the school.
"One teacher was pinned underneath a vehicle. That individual was extricated by first responders and transported to a local hospital. No students were struck."
The Archdiocese said they are unable to confirm the name of the teacher who was struck, or provide updates on that individual’s condition, but our newsgathering partners at NBC10 Philadelphia confirmed with the school her name is Amy Travers, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for her injuries.
"We are praying that the teacher will recover fully and quickly and express deep gratitude to all those who responded to this incident yesterday," said the Archdiocese.
No further information about he driver was available.
Saint Kevin School has been permanently closed since 2010. Saint Francis of Assisi School, also in Springfield, transferred students and staff to the Saint Kevin campus after a devastating fire in October.
CORRECTION: A spokesperson from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has confirmed that no students were struck, contrary to earlier reports.
