PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man shot two 13-year-old boys who were trying to break into his car Tuesday evening in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.
It happened around 6 p.m. on Belmar Terrace, near 59th Street.
According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the man’s neighbor called and told him that four kids were trying to break into his Honda that was parked in an alleyway.
“The owner of the Honda then went out and confronted these four juveniles. One of them did pull a gun. That’s when the owner of the vehicle pulled his weapon and fired, we believe, seven shots, striking the two 13-year-olds, causing all four of them to flee on foot,” Small said.
One of the boys was struck in the leg. The other was hit in the lower back. They are both in stable condition at the hospital.
The other two 13-year-olds ran away. Police found them about two blocks away and arrested them.
Police said the car owner had a valid gun permit and is cooperating with their investigation.
