PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 15-year-old was fatally shot on a SEPTA bus Saturday after a physical altercation.

Police say it started around 1 p.m. as a fight between a handful of kids in the back of the Route 38 SEPTA bus.

Police say the driver stopped the bus after realizing what was happening and one of the kids hopped off through the rear exit, turned around and fired one shot into the bus, hitting a 15-year-old boy in the chest.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died. On Sunday, Upper Darby School District released an email to students, faculty and staff saying the teen was a student at the high school.

SEPTA confirmed other riders were on the bus at the time of the shooting.

Police have yet to make an arrest. Officials are using bus surveillance footage to try to identify the suspects.

The Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact them at 215-686-3334.

There is a $20,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. Upper Darby administration say counseling services are available to those who need it.
