PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed inside a North Philadelphia home late Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 2400 block of North Colorado Street, near 17th and York streets, just before 5:30 p.m. They found the semiconscious victim, identified as Londyn Major, suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach and another to the leg. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Officials recovered a weapon at the scene and took a suspect into custody. On Friday, 18-year-old Anas Bey of Greenbelt, Maryland, was charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and other offenses. Investigators have not revealed what led to the shooting.

"We don't know if someone in the room was handling the firearm when it discharged and shot her or if she was handling the firearm and she accidentally discharged and shot herself," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "We're not certain because we're getting different accounts from witnesses that were in the property."

Small said there were about 10 people inside the home at the time of the shooting, including children under the age of 5.

Officials said the victim did not live at the home where she was shot but often visited family and friends there.
