PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 19-year-old was killed and a 21-year-old was critically wounded in a shooting in Southwest Philadelphia Monday morning.

It happened just after 11 a.m. near the Cobbs Creek Parkway.

Police say the two were walking north on 60th Street towards Market, a busy intersection lined with businesses and surveillance cameras when two people, both in gray hoodies and dark pants, came up behind them and began to fire their guns.

"They went right to them and stood over them as they were shooting and then fled in the same direction they arrived in — fled southbound on 60th and fled the scene," said Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore.

The 19-year-old died at the hospital and the 21-year-old is listed in critical condition.

Vanore says the two are believed to be targeted.

Matthew Jefferson lives a block away and says he heard nine gunshots.

"This here is a real bad corner anyway, and they just fight over drugs, money," he said. My thing is, go in the service, do something with your life. Put them guns down."

He says 60th and Market has had more trouble in recent years but is usually patrolled by police.

"They always sit there, all the time, but this time, there was no cop there or there, and they sit there all day long, but it just so happens there was no cop there today."

Police have not made any arrests or recovered any weapons.

CORRECTION: Police initially said the victim was 16 years old.
