PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An 18-year-old was shot and killed in the backyard of a house in Strawberry Mansion overnight.
It happened just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at a house near the intersection of 31st and Norris streets. Responding officers rushed the teen to the hospital, where he died shortly thereafter.
Witnesses interviewed by police said an argument preceded the gunshots. Investigators said the suspects may have been a group of three teens who fled westbound on Norris Street in a white or light-colored SUV.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said investigators are also looking at nearby surveillance footage.
“Fortunately, we found some real-time crime cameras in the area, and we found numerous private surveillance on properties in the immediate area,” he said. “Hopefully, they recorded something and can help us with this homicide.”
Authorities also said the 18-year-old was not from Strawberry Mansion, and he was likely visiting friends at that house.
