PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A teen was shot and killed while getting into an Uber in Overbrook early Wednesday morning.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. at Wynnewood Road and Lansdowne Avenue.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said the 19-year-old was leaving his friend’s house when he was shot.
“As he opened the door to the Uber, that’s when at least two shooters approached from very close and began firing multiple shots,” he said. “We found over 40 spent shell casings.”
Police found him in the street next to a backpack with a semi-automatic rifle inside. They don’t know if the gun belongs to him.
The Uber driver sped off and stopped about 2 miles away, at 52nd Street and Lancaster Avenue, where he flagged down police and told them what happened.
The driver wasn’t hurt, but there are multiple bullet holes in his car.
