PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A teenager who was wanted for the murder of another teen on a SEPTA bus in West Philadelphia last month was arrested Thursday in Montgomery County.

Zaykai Davis, 17, was taken into custody by U.S. marshals at the Westover Village apartments in Norristown, where authorities said he had been hiding out for several days with a longtime friend.

Davis was wanted in the March 22 shooting death of Zahkir Whitfield, 15, a student at Upper Darby High School.

Philadelphia police said Davis and a group of other teens got into an argument with Whitfield on a SEPTA bus near 40th Street and Girard Avenue. Detectives said Davis jumped out of the back of the bus and fired a single shot into the vehicle, striking Whitfield in the chest.

Whitfield died from his injuries.

Authorities released video surveillance of the incident and were later able to identify Davis as the shooter.

He is expected to face murder and firearms charges.
