GLOUCESTER CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Three teens were arrested after several car burglaries over the weekend in Gloucester City, New Jersey. The parents of two of them are also facing charges for failing to supervise their children.
Gloucester City police arrested the teens on Sunday. Surveillance video from a house shows them walking down the street in the Highland Park section of the city and testing the door handles of parked cars to see if they’re unlocked.
The teens face 28 charges, including burglary, theft, and possession of stolen debit and credit cards.
One of the teenagers, 19-year-old Wesley Hunter Jr., had warrants out for his arrest and was turned over to Camden police after the Gloucester City Police Department took him into custody.
The two other teens are minors, ages 16 and 17, respectively. They were taken to the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center, issued ankle monitors, and released to their parents. Police said their parents are charged with failure to supervise them.
“I think that’s a very good idea,” said Gloucester City resident Donna Etherington.
She was shocked that there were even car burglaries on her block in the first place because of who lives nearby.
“We do have a lot of cops in this neighborhood,” she told NBC10.
Gloucester City police are continuing to investigate the burglaries. They are asking all residents to check and see if their cars were broken into. If that’s the case, residents should contact the police department.
