PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Gloucester County are looking for a group of teens who stole four cars early Friday morning.
It happened between 3 and 5 a.m., according to the Washington Township Police Department.
Police Chief Patrick Gurcsik said all of the cars were unlocked, and three of them had key fobs inside.
“I’ve been the police chief here now going on nine years. I’ve never seen or experienced anything like it,” he said.
One of the cars stolen on Friday was later used in a high-speed chase in Pennsauken. Police were able to recover three of the four vehicles stolen, but they’re still looking for the thieves.
“Our suspects were wearing masks, they were wearing gloves,” said Gurcsik. “They appear to be very, very young — like 13, 14, 15 and 16 years old.”
Gurcsik said “crimes of opportunity” like these are happening more and more both locally and across the Garden State.
