Third DanDan restaurant now open in Suburban Square

ARDMORE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A third DanDan restaurant has opened in Suburban Square, with plenty of outdoor seating.

The name comes from a noodle of the same name: “In the old time, people carried the wooden ‘dan’ to the market and sell noodles,” explained co-owner Cat Huang.

DanDan serves up Sichuan and Taiwanese flavors using authentic spices. Sharing plates is definitely recommended.

“Usually you always like somebody else’s entree better,” Huang said, “so we encourage family-style.”

There are about 100 items on the menu, so even for relatively frequent customers, Huang said it could take them a whole year to get through the extensive list.

On Saturday evening, they’ll be celebrating their new location with a traditional lion dance.

“We do that [on the] new year and will give the lion a red envelope in the end,” she said.

Co-owner Kevin Huang said the lion brings good fortune.

“Generally, it’s good luck because the lion is luck for the Chinese.”
