Want to vote in the general election? Today is the last day to register in Pa.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Monday, Oct. 19, is last day Pennsylvania residents can register to vote before the Nov. 3 general election.

The Philadelphia city commissioners have opened 17 satellite election offices throughout the city. At 12 of those sites, U.S. citizens 18 years of age or older, who have been residents of Pennsylvania for at least 30 days, can register to vote or update their registration and apply for a mail-in ballot in person, complete it and turn it in.

At five more locations, opening today, voters can drop off their mail-in ballots, but residents cannot register to vote there. Those sites are at Riverview Place, 520 Columbus Blvd.; Joseph H. Brown School, 3600 Stanwood St.; Harding Middle School, 2000 Wakeling St.; Mastbaum High School, 3116 Frankford Ave.; and Feltonville Intermediate School, 238 E. Wyoming Ave.

To mark the deadline, the city commissioners are holding a last-minute push at 52nd and Market streets in West Philadelphia to get people registered.

"We're in the community, talking to the comnunity, letting them know, No. 1, how important it is to vote, and No. 2, that they still have time to register to participate in the upcoming election," City Commissioner Omar Sabir said.

The location is significant. The neighborhood was the site of rioting that followed racial justice demonstrations after the killing of George Floyd last summer.

Sabir says the best way to make change is in the voting booth, and that's what he's there to tell people.

Volunteer Michelle Jackson was at the intersection bright and early.

"I've been doing this for the last 15 years. I'm encouraging all the young folks to come out and vote," she said. "We need their vote. We need their participation."

The satellite offices close at 4:30 p.m., but the deadline for online registration is midnight. Residents can register to vote online at votespa.com with a valid form of identification like a driver's license or a PennDOT photo ID.

The Riverview location will be open until midnight on Monday for mail-in ballot drop-offs. More details about hours of operation are available online.

Registered voters can apply for a mail-in ballot at one of the 17 satellite offices until October 27.

CLARIFICATION: Most Philadelphia satellite election offices close at 4:30 p.m. Voter registration deadlines may vary by county. Check with authorities in your area for specific times.
