NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A tornado touched down in Atlantic County Friday.
The EF-0 tornado, with winds up to 75 mph, caused severe damage in Collings Lakes around 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Al Baker said he was outside when a tree struck his neighbor’s home, hit some power lines and knocked out electricity on the block.
"It was unbelievable,” said Al Baker to our newsgathering partners at NBC10. “Can I say now I survived a tornado?"
According to NBC10, the homeowner was inside her house with her cats when the tree came tumbling down. No injuries were reported.
The aftermath left downed branches and trees and loose metal roof sheeting.
The Rutgers University Climate Lab says New Jersey averages about two tornadoes a year.
Most of them are smaller twisters, like this one, but even they can be difficult to recover from. The Red Cross is assisting neighbors impacted by this storm.
