PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 3-year-old Trenton boy is fighting for his life from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and a Philadelphia woman is now facing charges in connection with the incident.
Investigators say 30-year-old Chante Odom of Philadelphia was visiting the boy's father on Phillips Avenue in Trenton, and during that visit, just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, the boy found the gun in her purse and shot himself in the head.
Police arrested Odom on Wednesday. Odom is now being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point rounds and 3rd-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Police say the boy underwent surgery and is now in stable condition, but he may have a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Neither of the two other children in the home at the time of the shooting were hurt.
