TRENTON, NJ (KYW Newsradio) — Seven people including two teens were wounded in a mass shooting in Trenton Tuesday night. Police are searching for the gunmen and a motive.

It was around 10:30 p.m. at Centre and Furman Streets when the ShotSpotter system detected gunshots in the area, Trenton police said.

When officers got to the scene, they found seven wounded victims ranging in age from 17 to 30-years-old, police said. All of them were rushed to the hospital. One person is in critical but stable condition; the other six are in stable condition.

The Mercer County Shooting Response Team went over the scene in the neighborhood. It appeared that more than 50 shots were fired based on the yellow evidence markers that were scattered on the street. Some of the cars had bullet holes in them.

Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson said multiple shooters are being sought.

"The motive is unclear at this time, and the investigation is still in its infancy," he said. “The preliminary investigation suggests that there were multiple shooters involved due to separate locations where shell casings were recovered.”

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora said parents need to know where their children are and who they hang out with. He said curfew hours may be reconsidered for public safety.

“Curfew during school days is 10 p.m. and during summer hours it’s been extended up to midnight. I think we have to revisit that, particularly when we see what is happening across the country and other urban areas," said Mayor Gusciora.

He said the city is committed to identifying those responsible for the mass shooting and ensuring they are held accountable.

Trenton police are asking for the public’s help and ask anyone with information to call 609-989-4000 or 609-989-4155.
