PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three men were injured in a suspected shootout in North Philadelphia Monday night. Police said one of the victims was shot while watching television inside his home.
Just before 10 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting near 27th Street and Montgomery Avenue. Authorities found a 29-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm and leg.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said another victim, a 21-year-old man, was found shot inside his home on nearby Marston Street.
"A 21-year-old was sitting on a couch in his living room with family, watching television, when a stray bullet came through his living room wall and struck him in the leg," said Small, "an innocent victim struck by stray gunfire."
Both men were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Small said investigators learned of a third victim when he arrived at the hospital shortly thereafter.
"That 28-year-old was shot in the face, the arm and the leg and he is in critical condition," he said.
Investigators recovered 28 spent shell casings from about half a block apart. They believe this may have been a shootout. Police are hoping nearby surveillance video will help them identify the shooters.
