PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A work truck, reported stolen, crashed into a Subaru SUV near the intersection of Kingsessing Boulevard and 55th Street shortly before 3 p.m.
The collision sent the truck careening into the playground at S. Weir Mitchell Elementary School. The SUV sustained heavy front end damage and the work truck overturned about 30 yards into the school’s recess yard next to a playground slide.
Crossing guard Jamele Ransom jumped out of the truck's way with seconds to spare before it barreled into the playground.
"I tell you, he ran the light, t-boned the lady. I'm bobbing and weaving," Ransom told NBC10.
The truck was allegedly stolen from its work crew minutes earlier, who left it unlocked and running at their job site.
The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Robert Littlepage, was taken to a hospital. He faces a long list of charges including attempted carjacking, aggravated assault and reckless driving.
The School District of Philadelphia told KYW Newsradio no students were injured.
