PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — President Trump was at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware Saturday for the dignified transfer of six U.S. Army Reserve soldiers killed by a drone strike in the Middle East last weekend.
President Trump stood alongside Vice President JD Vance, First Lady Melania Trump, and military officials as the flag-draped transfer cases were carried off the plane. The president met privately with the grieving families before the transfer ceremony.
Earlier on Saturday, the President spoke before heading to Dover, and said it’s a sad situation.
“Coming home in a different manner than they thought they'd be coming home. But they're great heroes in our country, and we're going to keep it that way. When it comes to war, there's always that, but we're going to keep it to a minimum,” the president said.
The service members were killed in Kuwait during Iran’s initial retaliation strikes on March 1. The Department of Defense identified the fallen soldiers as Maj. Jeffrey O'Brien, 45, Capt. Cody Khork, 35, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Marzan, 54, Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, 39, Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42, and Sgt. Declan Coady, 20.
The soldiers were assigned to the same Army Reserve unit in Iowa. Officials from the Midwest, including Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, were also in attendance.
Their remains will now be positively identified and prepared before being returned to their families.
